Summer Tracks opens Friday with Tellico

Published 10:00 pm Tuesday, May 30, 2017

The 18th season of Tryon’s most popular summer event – Summer Tracks – kicks off on Friday, June 2 with Tellico. The show begins at 7 p.m. in Rogers Park. Tellico is a product of Asheville N.C.’s thriving Roots Music scene, its members well schooled in Bluegrass but with an unbridled organic “Appalachiacana” sound. Formed in 2014 Tellico in-dependently released their debut album Relics and Roses in June, 2015. Tellico features the singing and songwriting of Anya Hinkle (guitar, fiddle) and Stig Stiglets (bass, harmonica), with Aaron Ballance on dobro and Jed Willis on mandolin and clawhammer banjo. Anya, Stig and Aaron formed Tellico after recording four records with the Asheville-based bluegrass band Dehlia Low. Well known for their rootsy, authentic singing and vocal harmony, as well as the hard-edged nostalgic yet modern themes of their songwriting, the quartet combines some of the finest voices, songs and instrumental prowess in western North Carolina and beyond. Tellico makes acoustic mu-sic that is both true to tradition and uniquely their own. It’s mu-sic that has appeal for die-hard Americana and roots music fans, while it offers something to folks who never liked songs that even came close to a pair of overalls. Tellico threads the needle of top-notch musician-ship and compelling song-writing while simultaneously honoring their forebears and making music that is fresh and new. Their songwriting crafts an acoustic soundscape of Appalachian daydreams that stack up to the works of John Hartford, Emmylou Harris and the Avett Brothers. —Joe Kendrick, Southern Songs and Stories As with all Summer Tracks concerts, the show is free, though a voluntary donation at the gate is encouraged. Audience donations along with the generous sponsorships of local businesses and individuals make these shows possible. Manna Cabana’s delicious fresh food and homemade ice cream, water and soft drinks will be for sale. Summer Tracks is produced by the Town of Tryon in affiliation with Peter Eisenbrown of Blockparty Productions. For more information about Sum-mer Tracks and the performers visit summertracks.com.
