For two weeks in March, students and staff at Polk County High School came together and raised more than $3,000 to stop hunger throughout the world.

On Saturday, students saw their money at work and had the opportunity to package meals that were purchased with their funds.

More than 50 students spent two hours putting together packages that will serve more than 10,000 meals.

Those meals will be distributed by Rise Against Hunger, a Raleigh-based organization that will deliver the meals to schools and orphanages around the world. Children will come to the schools to be fed and will be educated, thus helping to break the cycle of poverty.

The fundraising efforts were spearheaded by HOSA, with large donations made by Interact and Key clubs.

“I am continually amazed at how our students come together when the opportunity is presented to give to others,” said HOSA advisor Pam Arrowood. “We are so blessed to have such caring students at Polk County High School.”
