April 6, 1966 – May 4, 2017
Connor was born in New York, N.Y. to Robert Mason Neely and the late Elisabeth Mebane Dowd.
Connor moved with the family to Charlotte, N.C. in 1966 where he later graduated from West Charlotte High School. Following high school, Connor continued his education by obtaining a degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Economics.
Next Connor completed the graduate program at the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina where he graduated number one in his class. Speaking fluent Russian, he went on to work in Moscow and later London.
Returning to the United States in 1998 Connor lived in Charleston, S.C., Austin and Houston, Texas, Atlanta, Ga. and most recently Gainesville, Fla. Working as an investment banker, Connor traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe.
Connor was a cyclist, a runner and a die-hard fan of UNC basketball. A man of sharp intellect, Connor was a poet and a voracious reader of literature, history and politics. He was also a connoisseur of fine music, beginning with the Beatles in his childhood and branching out in all directions from there.
His impish nature and unorthodox sense of humor were legendary. Above all, Connor was deeply loved by a large group of friends and family who are devastated by his passing.
Connor is survived by his father, Robert Mason Neely of Tryon, N.C., his brother Robert Mason Neely, Jr., his sister-in-law Joy Das Gupta who is married to Robert and his niece Asha Mason Neely. May our sweet and loving Son rest in peace.
