Polk and Henderson County have collected 102 percent of Saluda taxes

Polk and Henderson County tax departments have collected 102 percent of the City of Saluda’s taxes this fiscal year, totaling $623,854. Saluda commissioners met Monday, May 8 and approved a budget amendment for $500 in collection to represent the amount collected above what the city budgeted. Municipalities are only allowed to budget the percentage that was collected the previous year.

Saluda urges residents not to put anything for garbage collection that is prohibited

The Saluda Board of Commissioners urged residents this week not to place items out for garbage pickup that aren’t allowed after a garbage truck recently caught fire. Saluda Mayor Fred Baisden said during the city’s Monday, May 8 meeting that someone dumped pool chemicals in their trash and it reacted to something in the garbage truck, creating a fire. Baisden said there was no damage but it could have easily destroyed the truck.

Saluda approves amendments to its zoning ordinance

The Saluda Board of Commissioners approved amendments to its zoning ordinance following a public hearing on May 8. The amendments included adding bicycle sales and repair to the list of permitted uses in R2 and R3 zoning districts, removing duplicate language in the ordinance and amending the definition to bed and breakfast.

Saluda sets budget retreat for Monday, May 22

The Saluda Board of Commissioners has scheduled a budget retreat for Monday, May 22 at 6 p.m. The city is considering the upcoming fiscal year 2017-2018 budget, which will begin on July 1. The budget retreat will be held at the upstairs meeting room of the Saluda Public Library located downtown.
