Polk County will look to extend its playoff run on Thursday, hosting South Stokes in the second round of the state 2A softball playoffs.

The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. Admission is $6, and NCHSAA passes are all that will be accepted.

The Sauras (13-12) head to Polk after upsetting West Lincoln 6-5 in eight innings in their opening-round win. Senior Autumn Miller homered twice in that victory for South Stokes, including a game-winning solo shot in the top of the eighth.

Senior shortstop Katie Manring, a Campbell signee, leads the South Stokes offense, with Miller, a Brevard College signee, Destiny Agee and Maddie Shore other key players to watch. Freshman Raegan Badgett and senior Paige Rideout will likely share pitching duties.

Polk County (12-6) enters off a 7-5 win at West Davidson. Maranda Gosnell had a two-run homer and Ashley Ponder had three hits and three RBI for the Wolverines in that victory.

Thursday’s winner will travel to either Forbush or Draughn in the third round.
