After 12 years of faithful service to county veterans, Darrel Moore, right, has officially retired. The new veteran services officer starting June 1 will be Gina Cashion, who is a veteran and presently working as an investigator with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department. Moore and his wife Kay were given a reception by American Legion Post 250 at its May 2 meeting in Tryon. Accolades were given in forms of resolutions by both Polk County officials and the American Legion Post 250 Commander Bevin Corbin, left. Moore served a combined 30 years of service with the Army and the Veterans Administration. Both he and his wife were born in Polk County and returned here after retiring from his last position as chief operations officer with the V.A. Hospital in Dublin, Ga. The Veterans Services office is located at 75 Carmel Lane in Columbus, 828-894-0003. (Submitted by John L. Johnson)
