Wolverines splash past Erwin in regular-season finale

Polk County splashed its way Thursday to a 4-0 victory over Erwin, marking Senior Night with a dominating performance in a non-conference girls soccer match in G.M. Tennant Stadium.

Polk County senior goalkeeper Malena Roman posted her ninth shutout of the season in Thursday’s win.

The Wolverines closed their regular season with their ninth shutout of the year, improving their record to 14-5 ahead of the start of the state 2A playoffs on Wednesday. Playoff pairings are slated to be announced Monday.

Baylee Love scored twice in the first 20 minutes of Thursday’s match and Lauren Ketwitz added a goal shortly before halftime as the Wolverines built a 3-0 lead at the break.

Reese Alley scored in the 58th minute for the final score of the evening.

Addie Lynch had two assists and Alley added one for Polk.

Erwin ended its season with a 3-17-1 record.
