Fans of Harmon Field open Snack Shack two Saturdays

Fans of Harmon Field, a nonprofit group trying to raise money for a new playground at Harmon Field will open the Snack Shack today, Saturday, May 6 and next Saturday, May 13 from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The proceeds will benefit the new playground at Harmon Field. The Snack Shack will be selling snacks, sports drinks, water and granola bars. Donations are also appreciated.

Columbus Town Council re-appointed Cindy Gibson to the town’s ABC board during its April 27 meeting. The Town of Columbus currently has an opening for an alternate position on its zoning and planning board.

Columbus could put restrictions on Spring Clean Up next year

During the Columbus Town Council meeting on April 27, council discussed an extreme Spring Clean Up this year where the town had to haul five to six loads in a couple instances. The landfill now charges $10 per electronic item, and the town had to absorb those costs for the Spring Clean Up, where the town picks up loads for residents who want to clean out. Columbus Mayor Eric McIntyre said the town may want to think about limiting the loads to one per resident and not picking up electronics next year.

Polk initiating “Adopt-A-Trail” program

Polk County is looking for trail stewards for its Adopt-A-Trail program. The county is looking for residents who hike a certain trail on a regular basis who would be responsible for hiking their trail at least once a month and reporting conditions to the trails coordinator.
