Polk County head golf coach Pat McCool wouldn’t mind seeing a few more tournaments on the team’s schedule this season.

“It was a great season, very enjoyable,” McCool said. “The season just started, and now it’s over.”

The Wolverines saw a successful 2017 campaign come to an end Tuesday at the 2A West Regional tourney at Meadowbrook, Polk County placing 10th overall in the team standings.

Dillon Overholt’s 87 led the Wolverines, who finished with a team score of 381. Lake Norman Charter’s 313 won the regional title, with Draughn and Shelby tying for second at 328.

“They played hard today, but our ball striking was a little off,” McCool said. “There were a lot of good players today with 15 golfers under 80.”

Shelby’ Zack Byers fired a 72 to win medalist honors by three shots over Newton-Conover’s Logan McNeely and Lake Norman Charter’s Jacob Rowland.

For the Wolverines, Jaylon Bontrager posted a 93, Gabe O’Brien carded a 100, Hunter Lynch had a 101 and Josh Chupp posted a 102.
