PCHS student-athletes, teams earn recognition for academic achievement

Polk County High School had more than 100 individual athletes and nine teams earn recognition from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for academic achievement during the fall semester.
The NCHSAA National Guard Scholar Athlete program honors student-athletes who earn at least a 3.5 weighted grade points average and teams who earn an unweighted aggregate 3.1 GPA.
The nine fall and winter sports season teams honored include:
• Women’s cross country, 3.631
• Men’s cross country, 3.25
• Men’s soccer, 3.107
• Volleyball, 3.861
• Women’s tennis, 3.736
• Cheerleading, 3.307
• Women’s indoor track, 3.453
• Men’s indoor track, 3.453
• Women’s basketball, 3.66
The football (3.065) and men’s basketball (3.095) teams narrowly missed earning recognition.
