The scoreboard struck twelve Wednesday for Polk County’s softball team – but signaled the end of a dream start for North Henderson.

The Wolverines roared back from a 6-0 deficit with a 12-run fourth inning, lifting Polk County to a 14-8 victory over North Henderson in a non-conference game at Polk.

The Wolverines (9-5) cranked out 11 hits in the inning, including Karli Wood’s three-run home run, in winning their fifth straight game.

Morgan Stott and Wood each had two hits in the inning, during which Polk County sent 15 batters to the plate. Every Wolverine batter scored at least once in the inning; Hannah Emory, Stott and Wood each scored twice.

Polk County added two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Emory and an RBI double by Wood.

Wood finished 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead Polk County. Maranda Gosnell was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Ashley Ponder added a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI. Emory and Morgan Sott each had two hits as every Polk County starter had at least one hit.

Polk County hosts Owen in Friday in a key Western Highlands Conference game.
