Brevard scored all six times it batted Wednesday, pounding out 13 hits in a 14-3 win over Polk County in non-conference baseball action at Polk.

The Blue Devils (10-9) led 8-0 by the end of the third inning and built the lead to 12-0 in the top of the fifth before the Wolverines (7-11) fought back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brevard pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth and held Polk scoreless to end the game by run rule.

Polk County’s bright spot offensively began in the fifth when Brett Phipps led off the inning with a single, followed by a Chris Lawrence single and a Chris Phipps walk to load the bases with no outs.

Donivvan Twitty singled to right to drive in Phipps, and Evan Rimer followed with a single to left to bring home Lawrence. Following a pitching change, Brevard retired the next two battters on strikeouts before Tyler Harris’s grounder brought in Phipps to make it 12-3.

The game ended the following inning, but not before a scary moment when Elijah Sutton was struck flush on the batting helmet by a pitch, the impact making a loud crack. After being examined by coaches and umpires, Sutton trotted to first base and ran off the field after the final out.

Six Wolverines had hits, those being Twitty, Rimer, Holden Owens, Harris, Phipps and Lawrence.

Polk County returns to Western Highlands Conference play on Friday, hosting Owen.
