Columbus arrests two on drug charges after shot fired along Hooker Rd.

COLUMBUS-The Columbus Police Department arrested two individuals on Monday, April 24 after stopping a vehicle suspected of having fired a weapon into a property along Hooker Road.

Columbus police were alerted by the Polk County Communication Center that a man had fired a weapon into the property of 833 Hooker Road and fled the scene. The communication center gave a vehicle description and direction of travel and Columbus Police Officers conducted a traffic stop of the suspected vehicle at Exxon One Stop in Columbus.

Juan Pablo Michua Castaneda, 30, of 61 Northview Rd., Weaverville, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, conspire to sell methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver methamphetamine, simple possession of a schedule III controlled substance, simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance, simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, carrying a concealed gun and unsealed liquor in the passenger area of a vehicle, according to Columbus Police reports.

Jessica Nicole Smith, 23, of 10 Sarah Hill, Candler, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, conspire to sell methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver methamphetamine, simple possession of a schedule III controlled substance, simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance and simple possession of a scheduled IV controlled substance, according to police reports.

Smith was the driver and Castaneda was the passenger of the vehicle and during the search officers found more than $4,000 in U.S. currency as well as heroin, methamphetamine, an open container of alcohol, multiple pill form controlled substances and a handgun officer believed to have been the one used to fire into the property of 833 Hooker Road, according to the Columbus Police Department.

Both Smith and Castaneda were taken to the Polk County Jail for processing, where Castaneda received a $50,000 secured bond and has a hold placed on him by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Smith received a $30,000 secured bond and is currently being held at the Transylvania County Jail.

Both suspects were scheduled to have their first appearance in court on Wednesday, April 26.
