James E. Mullins

James Edward Mullins, 85, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Smith-Phayer Hospice House in Landrum, S.C.

James was the son of the late Russell and Martha Brown Ball Mullins in Beaver Creek, Ohio. He retired from General Motors after 34 years of service as a machinist. In 1985, upon his retirement, he and his wife Rachel moved from Norwalk, Ohio to Tryon, N.C. He became a very active member of Tryon United Methodist Church when he often used his woodworking skills as a ministry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Margaret Ball and his biological father, Denver Ball.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Rachel Mullins; two sons, Michael Mullins (Marti) of Landrum, S.C. and Timothy Mullins of Nothwood, Ohio; one brother, Paul Mullins (Sandra) of Cardington, Ohio; and five sisters, Fannie Arthur of La Rue, Ohio, Betty Brown (Robert) of Mesa, Ariz., Eva Dugan of Archer, Texas, Frances Warren (John) of Castalia, Ohio, and Dora Bixler of Broadview Heights, Ohio. Also surviving are four grandchildren, James Russell Mullins, Rachel Michelle Mullins, Rusty Joseph Boggs, and Lance David Boggs (Chrissy).

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the Tryon United Methodist Church, Tryon, N.C. with Rev. Phil Hurst officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
