Scott Waddell is no stranger to Tryon Little Theater, having directed “Love, Sex and the IRS” for TLT back in 2015. When the 2016/2017 season was in the planning stages, Waddell was asked to direct “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” TLT’s last show of the season, and he jumped at the chance.
“This play is about hopelessness, yet finding hope.” says Waddell. “It’s about sadness, yet finding happiness. It’s about being lonely, yet finding others. And it’s all intertwined with great humor and truly tugs at your heart.”
Waddell has been active with Spartanburg Little Theater for over 24 years and has appeared in numerous shows in North and South Carolina and Georgia. He loves to direct, but feels equally at home on stage as an actor. One of his favorite roles was as Edna in “Hairspray.” He is a former featured performer for Carowinds, as well as a producer of the Miss South Carolina Pageant.
“I love working with this group of people in Tryon, so of course I immediately said yes when they asked me to direct again,” says Waddell. “The TLT folk are so easy to work with and really welcome you into the fold.”
“Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” will run for eight performances: April 27-29 and May 4-6 at 8 p.m. and at 3 p.m. on April 30 and May 7 at the TLT Workshop at 516 S. Trade St. in Tryon. Tickets are available online at tltinfo.org or call 828-859-2466.
