POLK COUNTY DISTRICT COURT

In Polk County District Court on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, with Judge Athena F. Brooks presiding, 118 cases were heard. Some cases were continued, dismissed or sent to superior court.

The following persons were convicted of a crime:

Martin Aster Anderson was convicted of simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance. Anderson was fined $50 and court costs.

Austin Nicholas Barnes was convicted of misdemeanor probation violation. Barns was sentenced to 90 days in jail then probation terminated.

Sally Diane Bell was convicted of probation violation. Bell was sentenced to 29 days in jail with credit for 22 days then probation terminated.

Brian Ross Guffey was convicted of injury to personal property. Guffey was sentenced to eight days in jail with credit for time served and court costs.

Tammy Latoya Logan was convicted of speeding 79 mph in a 70 mph zone. Logan was fined $50 and court costs.

Seth Allen McCrary was convicted of unsafe movement. McCrary was to pay court costs.

Dea Ann O’Shields was convicted of driving while license revoked-not impaired revocation. O’Shields was fined $50 and court costs.

Jackson Girau Turnage was convicted of unsafe movement. Turnage was fined 50 and court costs.

SALUDA POLICE DEPARTMENT

During the month of March 2017, the Saluda Police Department answered 116 calls for service and patrolled 4,817 miles.

There were 33 state citations, seven city citations, 16 warnings, two accidents, two larcenies, two breaking and entering, 12 welfare checks, seven alarms, six open doors, 21 suspicious person and vehicle calls and one property damage call.

The Saluda Police Department made five arrests: one for DWI, two for domestic violence and two for warrants. Saluda was involved in three check points with the Columbus Police Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
