Star of Broadway’s “Les Miserables” to appear on TFAC Stage

There are 24,601 reasons to see J. Mark McVey perform at Tryon Fine Arts Center on Saturday, April 22. McVey is best known for starring in the iconic role of Jean Valjean in the smash hit Broadway musical “Les Miserables.”

The musical “Les Miserables” (called “a cultural touchstone” by Plugged In magazine) tells the story of convict Jean Valjean in his search for redemption after 19 years as nameless Prisoner 24601. Based on Victor Hugo’s epic novel of tumultuous 19th century France, the musical has gained a beloved place in the hearts of fans the world over.

Much of the ubiquitous popularity is due to McVey’s mesmerizing turn as Jean Valjean in five different productions, including on Broadway, the National Tour, and in London’s West End. Mr. McVey’s performance has won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Actor, the Ovation Award, as well as legions of fans.

At TFAC on April 22 at 8 p.m, McVey will delight the audience with highlights from the renowned musical as well as other selections from his expansive career on Broadway, film, television, and solo concerts.

Preceding the performance, McVey offers a vocal masterclass on Friday, April 21. Students of all ages will have the rare opportunity to spend the afternoon studying with a true Broadway star. Participants may also audit the class to see McVey in action.
