Rowland is a celebrated international artist, currently residing in Asheville, N.C., and her work is widely acclaimed. She weaves words, poetry, humor and the insights of the enlightened into her works, along with symbols, patterns and even photographs. Her work is greatly influenced by her travels around the world, especially to India, Thailand and South and Central America.

Pastel Artist Beverly Kies’ work is said to have “flaming color, bursting with the energy of life.” Kies is regionally recognized and has won both national and international awards at the Southeastern Pastel Society and the Appalachian Pastel Society. Her work is held in private collections nationwide and at the Thompson Garden and Art Gallery in Tryon and the Firefly Craft Gallery in Flat Rock, N.C. She currently resides in Hendersonville, N.C. and has served as the president of the Appalachian Pastel society for two years and has been studying art since she was 5 years old.

Sculptor Toby Wolter’s intriguing, colorful and sometimes whimsical work is delightfully influenced by all of his life experiences. Wolter took up a career in art after enjoying a career in modeling, then one in real estate. He studied at the Tryon Arts and Crafts School, and at Tryon Painters and Sculptors. Originally from Florida, he has resided in Miami, Washington D.C. and New York City, among other places.

Member artists include Marie King, whose work in pastels and oils vibrantly portrays the local Polk County scenery, and Mike McCarthy, whose paintings show oriental influence. Additional member art includes the serene paintings of Norma Batchelder, and unique and inspired sculptures by Nancy Wall.

The Kies/Rowland/Wolter show will continue through Saturday, May 13 at the Tryon Painters and Sculptors Gallery at 78 N. Trade Street in downtown Tryon. Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, you can visit the Gift Gallery featuring the works of over 50 local and regional artists.
