The Polk County FFA Poultry Evaluation Team placed third in the Western Region in the North Carolina FFA State Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event, held March 16 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.
Team members included Karli Kilgore, Haley Robinson and Landry Edwards. Ashley Gilbert served as the team’s sponsor.
During the event students evaluated production, processing, and merchandising phases of the poultry industry, as well as identify various industry components. They are also tested on the application of sound management practices.
Participants evaluated live birds, present oral reasons and place a class of ready-to-cook broilers. In the processing and merchandising phase of the event, students selected and graded ready-to-cook turkeys and process products and cartons of eggs.
