Dorothy (Dottie) Bright, 87, passed away on March 19, 2017 at Tryon Estates in Columbus, N.C. surrounded by her family.

Dottie was predeceased by her parents, Fredrick and Grace Marburger; a son, David Bright; a grandson, Tim Bright; and two brothers, Fredrick Marburger and James Marburger.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Harold (Hal) Bright; two daughters, Karen Bright of Charleston, S.C. and Linda Yovetich (John) of Missoula, Mont.; one son, Tom Bright (Rickia) of Greer, S.C.; grandchildren Steven Bright (Haley), Nick Yovetich, and Sarah Yovetich; and great-grandchildren, Lillian, Harlan, and Stella Bright.

Born and raised in Canton, Ohio, Dottie graduated from Canton Lehman High School and continued on to graduate from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. After graduation, she married Hal, her college sweetheart, to whom she remained married for 66 years.

Raising her four active children became the focal point of Dottie’s life. From chauffeuring them to their various activities to being their number one fan, she never hesitated to put her children first. Along with being a loving wife and mother of four, Dottie, was active in every community where the family lived. She volunteered at her children’s schools, at various hospitals where the family lived, in addition to volunteering at the Tryon Retirement Community in her final years. She enjoyed bowling, golf, bridge, reading, and was a fabulous cook and baker. Her recipes are still cherished by family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at McFarland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 8, 2017, 1-1:45 p.m. visitation with the service to follow at 2 p.m.
