From the North Carolina Press Association Winter Institute meeting held in Raleigh March 9-10, 2017, the Tryon Daily Bulletin came home with three awards for excellence in the division for daily newspapers with a circulation of 12,500 or under.
In the category of Best Niche Publication, the Bulletin took first and third place for the tri-annual Visitor’s Guide and monthly Life in Our Foothills magazine, respectively. Judges noted great photography, well-rounded content, and an appealing cross section of stories to appeal to a wide audience. Claire Sachse is the editor of both publications, Gwen Ring the graphic designer, and Betty Ramsey was the publisher. Numerous freelancers contribute to both publications, as well as Bulletin staff writers.
Magan Etheridge, sales representative, won first place in the category of Best Black & White Restaurant/Entertainment ad. Judges noted the clarity, humor and cohesiveness of the advertisement.
“Our team here at the Bulletin works hard on all they do, and to receive statewide recognition was a validation of all the dedication, knowledge and hours they put into our family of products,” said Kevin Powell, general manager of the Bulletin. “Ultimately, as it has always been, the awards reflect the community in which we live, as it is our readers, contributors, subscribers and advertisers that drive the ‘World’s Smallest Daily Newspaper’ to be the best hometown news source.”
