Solid day lifts Polk County golf squad past Landrum

The continued progress that Polk County’s golf team has been making paid off Wednesday as the Wolverines topped Landrum by six strokes in a nine-hole match at Links of Tryon. Polk County delivered its best showing of the season, with four players breaking 50, to post a team score of 184 and best Landrum’s 190.

“We played the best we’ve played this year,” said Polk County head coach Pat McCool. “It was nice to get the win.”

Dillon Overholt led the Wolverines with a 44, with Gabe O’Brien posting a 45. Hunter Lynch carded a 47 and Josh Chupp had a 48 for the Wolverines.

Also competing were Jaylon Bontrager (53), Trey Thompson (55), Nick Wilson and Blake Rackley (56) and Carl Campbell (59).

The two teams meet again Thursday, March 16 facing off at Tryon Country Club at 4 p.m.
