Wolverines roll past Rosman in softball season opener

Five Polk County players had at least two hits Monday to back the pitching of Ashley Scruggs as the Wolverines rolled past Rosman 9-2 in a non-conference softball matchup in Rosman.

In the Wolverines’ season opener and the debut of head coach Jamie Thompson, Scruggs struck out seven while shutting down a Rosman team (1-2) that had scored 24 runs in its first two games.

Maranda Gosnell led Polk County’s offensive outburst, going 3-for-5. Autumn Owen, Hannah Emory and Morgan Stott were each 2-for-4 with two RBI while Allie Thompson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Rosman earned a 9-8 victory in the junior varsity game.

Polk County opens its home schedule on Wednesday, hosting Landrum at 4:30 p.m.
