Projects receive top job awards for seventh consecutive year

For seven years running, work designed and/or produced by The Heirloom Companies was honored by the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA) during its 2017 Ernest Wiemann Top Job Competition on Sunday, Feb. 5, in San Antonio, Texas.

The Heirloom Companies received one silver award in the Interior Railing – Ferrous, Forged category, and two bronze awards in the Gates, Driveway – Nonforged and Furniture & Accessory Fabrication – Forged categories.

An interior stair railing at a residence within the community of Big Canoe in Jasper, Ga., won a silver Top Jobs award (Silver, Interior Railing – Ferrous, Forged). This project was part of a complete renovation of a 40 year-old mountain home, designed in-house by James Moseley and completely forged and fabricated in The Heirloom Companies’ shop.

The driveway gate of the McBride residence won The Heirloom Companies a bronze Top Jobs Award (Bronze, Gates, Driveway – Nonforged). Landscape architects for the project, The Collins Group, designed and The Heirloom Companies produced the driveway gate, with special thanks to residential construction partner and Heirloom Companies client Gabriel Builders. Spanning more than 12 feet tall by 18 feet wide, the gate proportions well with the other elements of this estate’s entrance.

Custom-designed and hand-forged mild steel chandeliers for Glassy Mountain Community Church in Landrum, S.C., earned a bronze Top Jobs Award (Bronze, Furniture & Accessories Fabrication- Forged). Led by James Moseley, The Heirloom Companies designed, produced and installed eight chandeliers while working in concert with a team of volunteer committee members of Glassy Mountain Community Church, an historic mountaintop church established in the 1860s. Everything was made from mild steel, designed and fabricated completely by the team at The Heirloom Companies, with some parts being cut out on a burn table, while others were hand forged. Fire scaling and a light hammering achieved the texture.
