Fun Foods with a Twist class Feb. 19

Some wonder if juicing could ever fill them up, but attendees at this past Sunday’s Drink Your Way to Health educational event at the Polk County Cooperative Extension Office learned otherwise.

The event, a partnership between the Polk County Cooperative Extension Office and the Tryon Seventh-day Adventist Church, aimed to demonstrate how incorporating juicing into your normal diet can produce extraordinary health benefits. 

“Drinking your fruits and veggies is the best possible way to get the nutrients right into your blood stream,” said nutritionist Bev Cook. “It also decreases some of the challenges our bodies face when attempting to digest.”

Jimmi Buell, the Consumer and Family Sciences agent for Polk County, shared an update on the impact of following the Mediterranean Diet. She gave the source of more information at medinsteadofmeds.com.

Attendees sampled six different juices and smoothies and went home with recipes to try.

This coming Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m., a follow-up lecture, Fun Foods with a Twist, will educate attendees on how to make the comfort foods you love with healthier ingredients.
