Polk County Public Library upcoming events

Below is a list of upcoming events at the Polk County Public Library’s locations in Columbus and Saluda.

Crafternoon: Marbled Mugs and Photo Coasters. Monday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m., Saluda library. Adults are invited to Crafternoon at the Saluda library once a month on the second Monday. The library provides all materials for free. Register for each class with Amelia at aderr@polklibrary.org or 828-894-8721 ext. 226. This month, we will make marbled mugs and photo coasters. Please bring your own photos for the coasters.

Color Me Happy: Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m., Columbus library. Adults are invited to Color Me Happy at the Columbus library once a month on the second Tuesday. The event is an evening of adult coloring. No artistic experience required. Bring your own art supplies or choose to use the library’s coloring pages and colored pencils.

Team Trivia Night: Friday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. Trivia night will take place at Black Coffee located in Tryon, N.C. The event is hosted by the Polk County Public Library. This month’s theme is “flashback” and the questions will be from each decade, starting with the 1950s.

Computer Basics: Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m., Columbus library. Adults are invited to computer basics at the Columbus library twice a month on the first and third Tuesdays. Learn basic computer skills. For this meeting, the topic is email.

Coffee & Conversation: Tuesdays from Jan. 17 until Feb. 21 at 6 p.m., Columbus library. Join Steps to Hope facilitator Sam Etheredge for a six week conversation series. Free coffee and refreshments will be provided. Etheredge will lead group discussions for parents of teenagers, youth leaders and anyone else interested in mentoring youth.

January 31: Negotiation and Compromising

February 7: Family dinners, meetings and fun

February 14: Talking Serious. Sex, drugs and alcohol.

February 21: Taking Care of Yourself

Cookbook Club: Thursday, Jan. 19 at noon, Columbus library. Adults are invited to Cookbook Club at the Columbus library once a month on the third Thursday.

Each month will challenge you to create a themed dish. Bring the dish and recipe to a potluck lunch to share. January’s theme is “try something new.”Bring a dish you’ve never made before to the meeting. Cooperative Extension agent Jimmi Buell will also share information about trying the Mediterranean diet at this month’s meeting.

Friends of the Library Book Club: Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m., Columbus library. Adults are invited to Friends of the Library Book Club at the Columbus library once a month on the fourth Wednesday. “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson will be discussed at the January book club meeting.
