Katherine McKaig Garrett, 93, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016.

She was born November 13, 1923, the daughter of the late James Bryant McKaig and Kate Ross McKaig. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond Garrett, sister Edna, and brothers James, Bill, Lloyd, and Floyd.

Katherine was a beloved wife, sister, and aunt. She was a graduate of Tryon High School. For many years, she was the owner/operator of the Lorna Doone Beauty Salon in Tryon.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tryon and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A crafter, she left many keepsakes for her family to enjoy.

Katherine is survived by brothers Franklin McKaig (Sadie) of Tryon and Fred McKaig (Edith) of Raleigh, and sister Barbara Edwards (Glenn) of Jonesborough, Tennessee. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces who will remember her travels to sporting events and volunteering in the community.

Funeral services will be held at McFarland’s Funeral Home of Tryon, on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 1 p.m., with Dr. Jeff Harris officiating.

Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 12-12:45.
