Wolverine girls unable to slow Madison in holiday tourney

Madison steamed past Polk County 66-22 on Thursday in consolation girls basketball bracket play at the Knights Christmas Tournament at North Henderson High School.

The Patriots (10-2) rebounded from Wednesday’s loss to T.C. Roberson to down the Wolverines (0-10) for the second time in three weeks. The two Western Highlands Conference teams meet again Feb. 9 in the final regular-season game of the season.

Autumn Owen had 14 points to lead the Wolverines, with Bella Marino scoring five points and Ansley Lynch adding three.

Polk County will face Thomas Jefferson on Friday at 10 a.m. in the seventh place game of the tournament. The Gryphons, also winless this season, dropped a 66-15 decision to North Buncombe on Thursday.
