Polk Central’s Walter lands Bright Ideas grant for weather project

Polk Central Elementary School fifth grade teacher Andrea Walter has received a Bright Ideas education grant from Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation and the Bright Ideas grant program.

Walter plans to use the grant to create a weather station for classroom use.

The Bright Ideas grant program is offered by all 26 of North Carolina’s electric cooperatives and supports educators in need of funding to implement creative, hands-on learning projects in their classrooms.

Last year, Rutherford EMC awarded 21 teachers more than $15,900 to fund innovative classroom projects to benefit more than 3,900 students at schools in Burke, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford counties.
