John Brown Trio brings passion for jazz and music education to TFAC

Tryon Fine Arts Center is proud to welcome Duke University educator and bassist-extraordinaire John Brown and his trio with vocalist Nnenna Freelon on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m.

“Arts in education has long been one of TFAC’s top priorities,” said TFAC Executive Director Marianne Carruth, “so we’re very proud to welcome an artist who shares that passion. John Brown is both an incredible performer and renowned educator.”

Bassist, composer, educator and actor John Brown is a native of Fayetteville and currently resides in Durham, N.C. He is a graduate of the School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

John currently serves as director of the Jazz Program and associate professor of the practice of music at Duke University, and he has served on the faculties of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Central University and Guilford College. John Brown and his musicians are committed to jazz education, for all people, at all levels.

John Brown Trio is completed by pianist Cyrus Chestnut and drummer Adonis Rose. They will be joined by jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon for a jazz-fueled holiday performance at Tryon Fine Arts Center for one night only on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m.

Nnenna Freelon and John Brown Trio are presented by Tryon Daily Bulletin, Tryon Estates, and the North Carolina Arts Council. The 2016-2017 Main Stage Season is presented by Parsec Financial.
