Despite a pair of losses to open the regular season, Phillip Miller is optimistic about the present and future of Polk County wrestling.

And certainly ready to see the present in full form.

Miller gave Polk County’s football players last week off after the season-ending loss at Surry Central, but welcomed those wrestlers to practice on Monday as Polk County began preparing for today’s home opener against Landrum.

A handful of varsity and junior varsity wrestlers competed Saturday in the Knights Invitational at North Henderson. Five Wolverines competed in the JV bracket, with all five winning at least one match.

Two Polk County wrestlers – Preston Burnett at 125 pounds and Carlos Sedano at 152 – won their weight classes.

Today’s match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
