Ruth Elizabeth Falls Farrar

Ruth Farrar, widow of Rev. C.W. Farrar, died peacefully at the Smith-Phayer Hospice House in Landrum, S.C. on Nov. 26, 2016. A native of Gaston County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Clarence William and Rosa Glover Falls and had lived in Landrum for 61 years.

A graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College, she also attended New Orleans Baptist Bible Institute and Mars Hill College. Mrs. Farrar was a member of First Baptist Church Landrum where she loved working with preschool and children’s ministries there, throughout Landrum and within the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

Retiring as the Landrum Branch Librarian, she will be remembered as a helpful, smiling face to everyone and as one of the co-founders of the Landrum Quilters. Mrs. Farrar served on the board of Greater Spartanburg Ministries and was honored as a Landrum Citizen of the Year. She loved children of all ages, flowers and God’s beautiful creation, baking bread, sewing, and teaching and sharing all she knew with others.

She is survived by her children Jenny Brady (John) of Richmond, Va., Lou Parton (Roy) of Landrum, S.C. and Bill Farrar (Lisa) of Lancaster, S.C.; grandchildren John T. Brady (Elizabeth) of Charleston, S.C., Caraleigh Brady of Raleigh, N.C., Mimi Brady of Richmond, Va., Rosaruth Palmer (John) of Spartanburg, S.C., Jenny Ann Cannon (Brandon) of Landrum, S.C., Morgan Farrar of Lancaster, S.C., Jason Leaphart (Emily) of Lancaster, S.C. and Jennifer Heath (Mike) of Lancaster, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Karis, Thomas, David and Judson Brady of Charleston, S.C., Kaden and Lindsey

Cannon of Landrum, S.C., Logan and Gracie Leaphart, Brayden and Brynn Carnes of Lancaster, S.C.; sister Juanita Lewis of Dallas, N.C.; brother- in-law Joel Farrar (Sara) of Rock Hill, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Lila Rankin, Glenn Falls, CliffordFalls, Esther Falls, Kenneth Falls, Palmer Falls, Boyce Falls, and Lorena Armstrong, all of Gaston County, N.C.

Celebration of Life service was held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church Landrum. The family received friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Landrum Family Life Center Building Fund (300  Rutherford Street, Landrum, SC 29356); International Mission Board (P.O. Box 6767, Richmond, VA 23230); Smith-Phayer Hospice House (260 Fairwinds Road, Landrum, SC 29356) or a charity of your choosing.
