Haiti holds a special place in the heart of Polk County senior Hunter Kilgore, who has spent a week in each of the past two summers in the Haitian city of Jacmel. Basing her senior project around the country seemed a natural fit. But Kilgore went an extra step by challenging students at Tryon Elementary School to be part of “Change for Haiti.” Each class at the school collected change as part of a fundraising project to provide clean water for residents in Jacmel. Students raised an impressive $1,730 for the Haitian relief effort. (Submitted by PolkStudents.com)
