Empowering Through Beauty, Inc. held its inaugural EmpowerHER Day: A Celebration for Women and Girls event on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Tryon Depot Room located at 22 Depot Street. Nearly 50 participants were in attendance at this empowering event.
EmpowerHER Day featured resourceful, community-driven women and girls of all ages. The event focused on today’s important issues such as social media awareness, inner beauty inspirations, a workout session with the Tyron Health and Fitness Club, and other helpful information to benefit the needs of women in our community.
Speakers included Empowering Through Beauty Foundation CEO Tanisha Akinloye, Alicia Moss, Amy Carroll, Kimberly Wilkerson, Janice Phillips, Sonya Twitty, Janet Sciacca, and George Hines, Jr.
The highlight of the event included an EmpowerHER Legacy award presentation in which former Polk and Rutherford county teachers were honored including Evelyn Petty, Edna Michael, and Janice Miller. Each recipient was presented with a poem by retired teacher, Carolyn Fuller Miller.
“We deserve to be celebrated and educated. I’m looking forward to hosting more events where we are empowered, united, and celebrated for our impact in our family and community” said Tanisha Akinloye. “I am especially excited about women teacher honorees in our community who made an imprint on our lives with their legacy.”
Starting this month the organization will soon begin holding ongoing workshops for women aged 13 and up. The upcoming workshop will be a personal development workshop that will provide leadership training and education to build self-esteem.
