Carol “Sue” Wallace

Carol “Sue” Wallace, 72, passed away at home after a long, courageous battle with leukemia on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Sue was born to the late George Russell Becker and Ethel Bender Becker and was raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. Sue obtained her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and taught fourth grade. During the years she lived in Smithtown, N.Y. she worked as a handicap advocate and was a Deacon and Trustee of The First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown, N.Y.

Sue was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and lovingly referred to them as her “little angels.” In her free time, Sue enjoyed baking, sewing, and music. In 1998, Sue and her husband Keith moved to the Tryon area. She was active in the Polk County Community, volunteering at Steps to Hope Second Chance Store, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, and Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry. She was also an active member of the Columbus United Methodist Church.

Surviving is her husband of 52 years Keith Wallace; a son, Sean Wallace (Daria) of Chicago, Ill., and two daughters; Kim Wallace (Nik Andresky) of Williamsburg, Va., and Kelly Franzone (Peter) of Williamsburg, Va. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Rufus and Josephine Wallace, Sarah and Samantha Andresky, and Jason and Catherine Franzone.

A memorial service will be held at The Columbus United Methodist Church on Dec. 10, 2016 at 11 a.m.
