Wheatmore sweeps Polk County in second round of 2A playoffs

Undefeated Wheatmore brought Polk County’s season to an end Thursday night, handing the Wolverines a straight-set loss in a 2A second-round state playoff match in Trinity.

The Warriors defeated the Wolverines 25-19, 25-14, 25-11, improving to 25-0 in their bid for a repeat trip to the state 2A championship game. Polk County ended its season at 18-7.

The match marked the second time in three seasons that Wheatmore has eliminated Polk County from postseason play. It also served as the Wolverines’ final match as a 2A program, as Polk County will move down to the 1A ranks next season.

Reagan Waddell had eight kills and 12 digs for the Wolverines, with Addie Lynch adding three kills and eight digs and Ansley Lynch finishing with three kills. Georgia Garrett had 11 assists and eight digs and Kendall Hall had 22 digs.

The Wolverines will bid farewell to three seniors – Garrett, Addie Lynch and Cameron Capozzi.
