Frederick E. Whiskin, MD

Dr. Fred Whiskin died at his home in Tryon, N.C. on October 14, 2016.

A graduate of McGill Medical School in 1948, he interned at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine and had his residency training in psychiatry at Mclean Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass. He was on the Harvard faculty for a number of years and had a private practice in Boston and the South Shore. He authored a number of papers for Psychiatric Association in 1976. In 2003, he was elected a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He was also active in the field of legal psychiatry and was a regional director of legal medicine for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

In 1979, he and his family moved to Stuart, Fla. for a period of six years and then to Tryon, N.C. An avid golfer, he was a member of Tryon Country Club. He was intensely interested in music, playing piano at a professional level. He will be remembered by many for his playing at Larkins, The Purple Onion, and other area venues.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sue.

A private service will be held at a later date.
