Cadets win bevy of first place awards at Chase band competition

The Polk County Cadets marching band brought home a number of awards, including top honors in class, from the Chase Trojan Tournament of Bands held Saturday at Chase High School.

Competing in the 1A class, the Cadets earned first place in Guard, Percussion, Music, Drum Major (Alivia Swayze) and overall.

“These are very sweet awards as the band has been dealing with an unusual amount of sickness and injuries,” said Polk County High School band director Cindy Gilbert. “I’m very proud that they have pulled together to help people that have come in at the last second to fill in spots. We are very thankful for Sami Waisman, Sabrina Ballard and Calista Cline who were the students willing to come in and work to fill these places in the drill.”
