The 73rd reunion of Green Creek High School Class of 1943 was held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 at the home place of one of the members. The class graduated with around 23 members in 1943.

Five of the six members still with us attended. They are Shirley Gilbert of Mill Spring, N.C.; the lone gentleman, Urbane Turner, of Forest City, N.C.; Kathleen Martin of Boiling Springs, S.C.; Helon England of Spindale, N.C.; and Sara Calvert of Eatonton, Ga.

The member not attending is Juanita McGuire of Anderson, S.C. She sent a message to her classmates that due to her health, she looked forward to seeing them next in Heaven.

The get together started at 1 p.m. with a lot of hugs and smiles. A few choice stories were shared with offspring of the attendees and there were also some stories of who dated whom the first time!

A memorial was presented for the class president, Leroy McCraw, who was killed in a tractor accident earlier in the year. Later in the afternoon, refreshments were served and all attending had a great time, graduates and children of graduates.

Leaving took a long time as no one seemed to want the reunion to be over just yet.
