Saluda to hold Railroad Day Oct. 22

Published 10:00 pm Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Since July 4, 1878, when the first passenger train came to Saluda, the railroad and the city of Saluda have always had a special connection. We would like to showcase this special bond. On Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Saluda will be holding Saluda’s Railroad Day.

We would like to invite everyone to come and help us celebrate our rich history of the railroad. Railroad model displays provided by Apple Valley Model Railroad Club will be set up throughout the town. Asheville Model Railroad Club will be having a large-scale model in the gym at Saluda School. There will be a trackless train ride for children, arts and crafts, live music, hobo stew, and antique railroad push cars on display.

Polk County History Museum will have a display of railroad artifacts in M. A. Pace General Store. Hub City Model Railroad Club will be showing videos of their trips up the famous Saluda Grade.
