The 2016-2017 Film Series at Tryon Fine Arts Center, centered around the pleasures of food and drink, opens with a screening of “Chef” on Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.

Tryon Fine Arts Center’s annual film series begins on Tuesday, Oct. 4, with “Chef,” the first of an eight-film series about a subject close to all our hearts, the pleasures of food and drink.

The monthly series will run from October through May and will include such notable and award-winning films as “Chocolat,” “Who’s Killing The Great Chefs of Europe?,” “Bottle Shock,” “What’s Cooking,” and “Water for Chocolate” and the season will end with a Julia Child-themed gala (with appropriate refreshments) prior to the showing of “Julie and Julia.”

The films are generally shown on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. although, this season there will be one exception to that rule, with two films in January.
