This year Meadowbrook hosted a PGA Junior Golf League for the first time. The format is a two-player scramble playing against two other players from another team. Players have numbered jerseys all of the same type and color to promote the team effort. The PGA Junior League offers instruction and practice time on the range and the course along with rules, etiquette, and fun.
Boys and girls 13 and under play on the same team. A team must have at least eight players to compete. Meadowbrook had 10 players for the season: four girls and six boys.
They were: Sara Rothrock, Kelsie Cochran, Katie Culp, Michelle Joseph, Peyton Lawter, Jacob Holland, Derrick Griffin, Andrew Joseph, Joseph Lucas and Zeke Houser.
The Meadowbrook team played six matches against the Riverbend YMCA team with Riverbend winning the division title. The Junior League Golf Association is holding open practice sessions for all juniors this fall on Thursdays from 4:30 until 6 p.m.
“We hope to field two teams next year” said William Deck, Meadowbrook Golf professional and general manager. “It’s a great program to promote youth golf in our area. The juniors had a great time.”
