Polk County residents will have expanded access to driver license services beginning in September, thanks to additional visits by a mobile unit of the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles.
The DMV mobile unit will include an additional Thursday stop in Columbus each month, adding to its current three visits. With its new schedule, the unit will visit four times each month beginning with Thursday of the first full week of every month. The unit will continue to be located at the Polk County license plate agency at 51 Walker St.
The mobile unit offers DMV services such as driver license applications and renewals, identification card applications and duplicate cards and licenses. It also administers written and sign tests for new drivers.
The unit’s September stops in Columbus include Sept. 8, Sept. 12, Sept. 22 and Sept. 29. It will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The unit may be reached at 252-425-3301.
Many DMV services, including driver license renewals and duplicate credentials, can be performed online by going to ncdot.gov/dmv and clicking “Online Services.”
