Polk County and the Town of Columbus were both selected by the Veterans Day National Committee of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a “Regional Site for the celebration of Veterans Day 2016.”  This is a very prestigious award and the association is both honored and proud to be able to bring this recognition to our community in support of the more than 2,200 veterans living in Polk County.

The Patriots Salute to Veterans Association, a subsidiary of the Polk County Veterans Association will be hosting the Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 12.  The change this year to having the parade on the Saturday following Veterans Day was approved by the association members so that more of the Polk County youth and businesses could participate and/or attend the event.

The volunteers organizing the event have been hard at work getting ready for this year’s parade and are in the process of sending out applications to all groups that participated last year. The association will also send out applications to as many local organizations/businesses as they can find, but seek the help of the local population.

If you do not receive an application for participation by Aug. 31 and would like to be a part of this year’s parade please contact the American Legion Post 250 at either 828-440-1113 and leave a message or email them at ncalpost250@gmail.com.

The organization is also seeking the use of three or four golf carts/ATVs and any donations to help offset the cost associated with hosting the parade. Contributions for this year’s event can be sent to the Patriots Salute to Veterans Association at P.O. Box 603, Columbus, NC 28722.
