TRYON – After much rain and heat, the Town of Tryon has given Trace & Company until Nov. 1 to complete the town’s streetscape project, which includes sidewalks and bump outs currently being constructed downtown and along Oak Street and later repaving parts of East Howard and Peake Streets.

Tryon Town Council met Tuesday, Aug. 16 and approved extending the contract until Nov. 1 instead of the previous Sept. 1.

Council met with Trace & Company owner Todd Trace who said there is no way they can make it through all four contracts by Sept. 1 and asked for an extension.

Trace also said he’s encountered some delays on ordering asphalt so suggested his company finish the sidewalks before moving on to pave the roads.

Trace said he’d like to have everything completed by the town’s annual Beer Fest, which is scheduled for Nov. 5 this year.

Other delays in the project included that Trace uncovered four holes that had to be dealt with including bringing in a surveyor.

Commissioner Bill Ingham said he had no problem giving the company an extension on the project and the entire board approved the extension.

The entire project has been estimated to cost $200,000. The first project began earlier this summer along Oak Street and includes redoing existing sidewalks and adding a sidewalk down Oak Street as well as improvements to the intersection, including bump outs that have recently been installed.

The sidewalks will also be redone from Missildine’s to the Tryon Theater.

The other projects that are scheduled to be complete by Nov. 1 include the repaving of Peake Street between East Howard and Shepherd Street and repaving East Howard Street from North Trade Streets to the Oak Street intersection. The town will also do infrastructure work during the repaving of East Howard Street. The infrastructure work will be done in-house and is estimated to cost an additional $10,000-$12,000.
