Philosophy of Film course at Upstairs Artspace

Published 9:30 pm Friday, August 19, 2016

Upstairs Artspace will offer the opportunity to examine the relationship between philosophy and film in a series of six classes beginning Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. at the gallery.  The series has been timed to coincide with the second annual Tryon International Film Festival and will explore the connection of various philosophers to the art of filmmaking.

The popular classes, a continuation of the philosophy of art series held at Upstairs Artspace last spring, will again be taught by Deborah J. Fitzgerald, Ph.D. Fitzgerald’s area of expertise is the intersection of philosophy and contemporary art, and she excels in interpreting complex theories in a readily accessible, always insightful format tailored to the non-philosophers among us. The films of Alfred Hitchcock, Luis Bunuel, Sergei Eisenstein and Cristian Mungiu, among others, will be discussed.

Save the dates!  Classes will be held at Upstairs Artspace, 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 28 through Nov. 9. There will be no class on Oct. 19. For further information contact Deborah Fitzgerald at gannon@windstream.net.
