Motorcycles on high wires and brick-breaking martial artists are two of the new attractions at the 2016 N.C. Mountain State Fair. The fair runs Sept. 9-18 at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center.

“Moto Maniacs,” a live display of motorcycle stunts and acrobatics, will make its fair debut this year. The multi-act show includes a caged motorcycle chase, high-wire motorcycle stunts and acrobatic performances.

Another new attraction is “USA Extreme Breaking Team.” The martial arts experts will perform high-flying flips, kicks and demonstrations of precision breaking daily.

The N.C. Mountain State Fair will feature more than 40 rides and games on the midway, including a new mirror maze for children called “Clown House.” The two-story funhouse is decorated like a clown face. Children enter through the clown’s mouth and exit on a spiral slide from the clown’s ear. James H. Drew Exposition, the midway operator, also plans to bring a roaming bear puppet that will drive a produce truck through the fairgrounds and interact with visitors.

Ag entertainers, sea lions among returning acts

“Farmer Bill’s Ag-venture” is back with more activities for children. This year, kids can participate in 15 farm-related activities. Those that complete seven of the activities will earn a ribbon. Activities include butter making, ag trivia, seed identification and seed germination. The exhibit also includes live baby pigs, chickens and ducks, as well as pedal tractors for children to ride.

In addition, the fair will host a lineup of crowd favorites including “Sea Lion Splash,” featuring amazing stunts performed by rescued California and South American sea lions; “Kenya Safari Acrobats;” “Agricadabra,” an agricultural magic show; and “Extreme Illusions & Escapes,” helmed by Josh Knotts, named the 2016 Fair and Festival Entertainer of the Year by the International Magicians Society.
