A new permanent structure is being built by Columbus resident Nathaniel Watkins, his father Marshall and a few other builders in Veterans Park to alleviate the need for groups and performers to rent a tent. Watkins is building the pavilion to fulfill the community project requirement necessary to become an Eagle Scout. He began work in the park a few weeks ago after receiving donations from the Town of Columbus, the Polk County Board of Commissioners and other private donors. The project is designed by Tryon architect Dean Trakas. Deliberations on the blueprints for the pavilion began last summer. (Photo by Michael O’Hearn)
