Drills and weightlifting heralded the start of the Wolverines’ practice session Monday.

Polk County began official preparations Monday for the 2016 football season, hitting the field Monday evening for the first practice of the fall season.

With contact limited to blocking pads and players only allowed to wear helmets and T-shirts, the Wolverines ran through a variety of drills during the two hour-plus workout. Both varsity and junior varsity teams worked out on the school’s practice field.

Among those in attendance were two familiar faces – former Wolverines Derrick Overholt and Tyler Philpott, who will serve as assistant coaches this season.

Polk County will continue practice sessions this week in advance of Saturday’s Midnight Madness practice, the first time players will be allowed to engage in full contact. The Wolverines are slated to host East Rutherford on Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. in one preseason scrimmage, then travel to Crest and face Burns on Aug. 12 in the Cleveland County Jamboree before opening the regular season in Aug. 19 at Chase.
