There will be no charges filed against a woman who shot a man during a scuffle over a purse at her home in Green Creek last week.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said they met with the district attorney’s office this week regarding the case and no charges will be filed against the woman or the man who was shot.
Last Wednesday, July 6, officers were called to a dispute at 3144 Collinsville Rd. in the Green Creek community where the caller said a man grabbed a woman’s purse and left the home. After a scuffle in the front yard, the owner of the home, Beverly Bryson, 53, shot Eddie Riddle, 51, in the lower back with a .22 rifle, according to police reports.
Another emergency call was made shortly after from Larry Stott’s Garage at the intersection of Jackson Grove Road and Landrum Road in the Columbus Township, just about 2.5 miles from the Collinsville Road home. Riddle had driven an SUV to Stott’s Garage and told employees there he’d been shot and needed help. Emergency crews arrived and transported Riddle to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where he was initially listed in stable condition and was expected to recover. The sheriff’s office did not have updates on Riddle’s condition this week or whether he had been released from the hospital.
Riddle was visiting Bryson’s home last week with a female when the dispute over the purse took place.
